2021 NOLA Links
Here are a few links to help you get started as you plan your NOLA reunion Nov 8-12, 2021. Any browser can find many more such sites, some quite specialized; just think up a search string and go for it. For example, “voodoo museum new orleans” produced more than a full page of hits.
Here is the HMM-265 reservation link for the 2021 reunion in New Orleans Nov 7-12, 2021. You must use it to make your reservation instead of the reservation instructions at the hotel’s home page in order to receive our truly excellent group rate. While the cut-off date for accepting reservations into this guest room block isn’t until Monday October 18, 2021, we urge you to book now if you believe that there is even a reasonable likelihood that you will want to attend. Why?
First, there is no downside to booking early. There is no charge to your credit card at time of booking and you can cancel without penalty as late as 72 hours prior to your scheduled arrival time.
The second reason it that it would be very helpful to your fellow Marines who are staging the reunion. How? In order to guarantee a certain number of rooms at a certain price we had to sign a contract with the hotel that commits the Association financially to that number of rooms. It is a balancing act; guessing too high costs us money, while guessing too low means turning members away. The contract does provide for upwards adjustments to that number if the hotel still has rooms available. However, there is likely to be a pent-up demand for hotel space as the nation emerges from COVID-related restrictions and New Orleans could fill up. Early booking would help us gauge how many additional rooms to reserve before that happens.
So please, do it now while you’re thinking about it.
Here are a couple of nice CofC-type general information links. The first is called Walkable Downtown and the second is Family Friendly.
Whatever your plans, book as early as you can. Venue websites often will say, directly or indirectly, how far ahead they accept reservations. Commander’s Palace, for example, probably the top rated restaurant in the city, appears to accept reservations up to two months in advance; on 3/1/2021 their online reservations calendar included the entire month of April.
Our venue hotel, the Aston Crowne Plaza New Orleans, has created an information site for our reunion to help you get started.
The official New Orleans Tourist Website is another good place to start for all things New Orleans. It is comprehensive, very well organized, and well presented. Check it out every couple of months because new things to do, see, and eat keep popping up. It also has a special section for what is coming up in the current and following month, as well as detailed information on things like public transportation.
Timeout.com is a site offering world-wide travel-related reviews. Here is a great review of 27 NOLA restaurants, with links to their websites (tks, Yerger): https://www.timeout.com/new-orleans/restaurants/best-restaurants-in-new-orleans
If you have other links to suggest just send them to the Webmaster.
