Good Morning,
I am a contractor assigned to the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) working MACVSOG losses.
On 6 MAR 1967 (maybe 5 MAR), a SOG Hatchet force was inserted into Salavan Province, Laos, by USMC CH-46s. One SF/SOG was lost and remains unaccounted for. I believe the choppers involved were from HMM 265.
DPAA is interested in speaking with any HMM 265 personnel who either were on that mission or have any recollections of the incident.
I can be reached at john.f.kull.ctr@mail.mil, as well as the phone number below.
Many thanks for any assistance you can provide.
Best regards
Jack

I am the webmaster for hmm-265.org. Once I am convinced of your bona fides then I will post your request on our website and attach it to an all-hands email. Two questions: 1. How can we know that you are who you say you are? 2. Such a mission, if flown, would have been highly classified. How can we know that it has been declassified so that my comrades could talk safely about it with you?
Best regards,
Kenneth H. Johnson, Major, USMC (Ret)
Hello Maj Johnson,
Below is an email from James “Sneaky” White vouching for my bona fides, well as additional comms he passed regarding the unclassified nature of my request.
Please contact Mr. White directly (cc’ed above) if you have additional questions/concerns regarding this matter.
In addition to the email below, Mr. White provided the following information:
“You can also contact Marion Sturkey
He knows me
Also contact the President of POP-A-Smoke
They know who I am
Also if you are familiar with MAC-V-SOG operations
President George W. Bush ‘unclassified’ our operations and gave us the Presidential Unit Citation
This is why so many books have been written about our operations now
What Jack is trying to do is help locate where these men’s remains may be
Also you can contact Red Logan – and he knows us both and helped me write my book about flying for Special Forces and MAC-V-SOG
