I arrived in Vietnam in May 1966 as a corpsman with HMM-265, the second CH-46 squadron at Marble Mountain. We went to Vietnam on the USS Boxer (LPH-4) via the Suez Canal. I was wounded on 9-16-66, sent to Okinawa, and returned to Phu Bai in October after some R&R. A lot of my service in country and with 265 was, and still is, a blur. I flew med-evacs with all the squadrons at Marble and Phu Bai and am extremely proud to have served with the Marines and especially MAG-16. I celebrate the Marine Corp birthday every year with a group of Marines at the local VFW.
